Pic of the day
Having been waiting for this day for long, I would be crossing the highest pass which is 25 km away at an altitude of 17,482 ft.
Packed everything and started the ride towards the tanglangla pass, and strongly decided I’m going to take it slow as it would be all uphill ahead.
So after initial 5km which is easy stopped at every 1km to have a sip of water and eat a little so I don’t go hungry or thirsty.
It took almost 4 hours to reach and finally here I’m. I couldn’t believe it until I reached the top and looked at the board which reads ‘you have reachedTanglangla‘.
After meeting a few bikers from France, clicked a few pictures and it was time to move towards the next village called Rumtse as it’s not safe to stay on any pass for long due to low oxygen levels.
Resumed the ride towards rumtse which was all downhill and bumpy initially but later on turned beautiful with frozen walls alongside huge pink sandstone mountains and once-in-a-while glaciers. While enjoying this beauty it was getting dark and it was not at all safe to ride at this time of the hour in this terrain.
The village was still 5km away so had to pedal hard to reach the village, the hands were freezing due to the cold breeze.
The thing with hilly areas especially Ladakh is until the evening it’s usually sunny and slowly by dawn, the temperament falls to 6°c and by night 4-2 °C
Finally reached the village and found a room under 300 which was the highest so far. However, I went for this as it had a facility of a hot shower and it’s been more than a week since I bathed or for that matter even changed my clothes. Here I met a few bikers who are from the same city as I’m and started suggesting I drop my plan of doing north India this season as it’s dangerous and one biker among them went on and on about how my plan is a total disaster and senseless.Nonetheless, I dint give much importance to their fear and pessimism because all they are thinking of is my safety and health.
